Italian aviation unions win labor agreements amid airport privatization

Union groups CISAL Catania and LEGEA have presented a "Patto per la Sicilia Orientale" demanding that the pending privatization of SAC S.p.A., the operator of Catania and Comiso airports, include the merger of SAC Service into the parent company and guarantee employment for staff up to 2049. The unions also called for the resignation of the current SAC governance, criticizing a lack of transparent dialogue.

Separately, the Italian flag carrier Ita Airways announced that it has reached a new collective bargaining agreement with its unions. CEO Joerg Eberhart described the deal as an investment in employees, featuring higher wages, expanded welfare benefits and wellbeing programmes. The agreement must still be approved by the airline’s board and comes amid broader industry challenges such as geopolitical tensions and fleet‑engine shortages.
