Italian Banking Association reports 3.6% rise in deposits and loans in June

The Italian Banking Association (ABI) said its direct collection grew 3.6% in June, continuing the positive trend seen since early 2024. Total loans to households and firms rose 3.3% overall, with household lending up 2.6% for the 18th consecutive month and firm lending up 3.5% for the 12th month. The average interest rate on all loans was stable at 4.08%, while mortgage rates fell slightly to 3.48% and enterprise loan rates edged up to 3.76%. Deposit rates also rose, with term‑deposit yields reaching 2.31% and current‑account rates at 0.31%.

ABI’s vicedirector Gianfranco Torriero noted that rates remain broadly stable despite recent tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, which could affect market rates in the coming months. He said the association will monitor the situation closely and expects a short‑term evaluation period.
