Monte dei Paschi di Siena posts record first‑half profit as Mediobanca integration advances

Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) reported net profit of more than €1.1 billion for the first half of 2026, a 25 % increase year‑on‑year, with operating profit above €2 billion and a fully‑loaded CET1 ratio of 16.3 %. The bank said the integration of Mediobanca is on schedule for completion in the fourth quarter.

Mediobanca also posted a record semester, posting net profit of €711 million (up 6 %) on revenue of €1.948 billion. Growth was driven by corporate investment banking, consumer finance, wealth management and insurance, with strong performance in M&A advisory across Italy, France and Spain. Both banks highlighted solid balance sheets, low non‑performing loan ratios and ample capital buffers.

Separately, Cassa Centrale Banca announced the resignation of CEO Sandro Bolognesi after more than three decades. The group, which posted a consolidated net profit of €1.162 billion and a CET1 ratio near 30 %, said the transition will be orderly and the bank remains well‑positioned in the Italian banking landscape.
