Italian boating industry hits record 8.72 billion euro turnover in 2025

The Italian leisure boating industry achieved a record turnover of 8.72 billion euros in 2025, marking a 1.4% increase from the previous year. According to data released by Confindustria Nautica in collaboration with Fondazione Edison and IULM COMAR, the sector's growth is primarily driven by high-end segments and strong international exports.

Exports accounted for 4.4 billion euros, a 2.6% increase, representing 90% of shipbuilding production. Italy maintains a dominant position in the global superyacht market, holding 52% of worldwide orders for vessels exceeding 24 meters, with 568 units currently in production.

However, the industry shows significant divergence between segments. While high-end and inboard units saw growth, the small boating sector—including outboard units, inflatable boats, and sailboats—experienced its second consecutive year of decline.

Employment in the sector is rising, with direct employees increasing by 3% to 32,420. The entire maritime supply chain involves approximately 170,000 workers. The industry's total economic contribution to Italy's GDP is estimated at 7.51 billion euros.
