Italian Borsa Italiana Hits Record Capitalisation Amid Declining Listings

In the first half of 2026 the total market capitalisation of companies supervised by Italy’s securities regulator Consob reached a historic €1.209 trillion, up 12.3 % from the end of 2025 and 27.3 % year‑on‑year. The FTSE MIB index rose 15 %, the strongest performance among major European exchanges.

Despite the record values, the number of listed companies fell to 416, with the main market Euronext Milan recording no IPOs and the growth market Euronext Growth Milan posting a net delisting. Overall, IPO activity has been scarce since 2023, with only four new offerings recorded.

Market commentary on 27 July highlighted the continued volatility of the STM stock after a sharp correction, falling oil prices below $85 per barrel, and Saipem’s announcement of two new contracts worth about €800 million—one offshore in Côte d’Ivoire and one onshore in Italy. The growth market also saw the debut of First Point, a dynamic SME listed with an initial post‑money capitalisation of roughly €4.1 million.
