Anas launches ‘Estate sicura 2026’ plan, suspends 1,175 road works nationwide

Anas, the state‑owned road operator, has activated the “Estate sicura 2026” campaign to ease the summer traffic surge expected from late July to early September. 1,175 of the 1,414 active works – 83 % – will be closed or suspended, leaving only the most urgent projects running. The company will deploy about 2,500 staff on rotating shifts and monitor traffic 24 hours a day, anticipating more than 440 million vehicle movements between 20 July and 6 September.

The plan is being rolled out across regions with specific reductions: Basilicata will cut its works by over 40 % (from 32 to 18 sites), Campania will lower the count by more than 50 % (from 41 to 17), and the Amalfi coast (SS 163) will see parapet and railing replacements staged to minimise disruption. The campaign is supported by the ACI, the national police, fire services and other authorities, and includes a new road‑safety TV spot featuring everyday drivers.

Additional measures such as night‑time work windows, temporary one‑way alternations and real‑time traffic dashboards are being deployed in several provinces to keep major arteries fluid. The coordinated effort aims to reduce travel times, limit congestion and improve safety for the millions of Italians travelling during the holiday period.
