Italian Carabinieri Arrest Drivers After Separate Chases In Mondragone and Naples

On the evening of 17 June, carabinieri in Mondragone stopped a grey BMW Series 1 for a routine check. The driver accelerated, fleeing for about two kilometres before abandoning the vehicle and attempting to run on foot. He was caught, tested positive for alcohol with a blood‑alcohol level of 1.26 g/L (first test) and 1.14 g/L (second test). Two foreign passengers remained in the car. The driver was charged with threatening a public official, dangerous escape and driving under the influence; the vehicle was seized.

In a separate incident near Naples, carabinieri pursued a speeding SUV through Ponticelli, Cercola and surrounding streets. The vehicle, driven by a 17‑year‑old, carried a 24‑year‑old, a 19‑year‑old and another passenger. During the chase the 24‑year‑old threw a 7.65 mm pistol from the window, which was later recovered. The adult was arrested and placed in custody, while the minor driver was charged with resistance to a public officer. The chase was linked to an earlier investigation into the murder of Fabio Ascione, highlighting a broader criminal context.
