Italian Carabinieri clamp down on Lignano and Lido Adriano beach towns
During the opening of the 2024 beach season, Carabinieri in Lignano Sabbiadoro stepped up patrols and made a series of arrests. A 53‑year‑old man from Verona was charged with aggravated theft after stealing four bottles of champagne worth €750. Two young men were found with small amounts of hashish and MDMA and were reported for personal use. A 19‑year‑old foreigner was cited for drunkenness and failure to produce identification, and a 23‑year‑old foreigner was charged with damaging a motorcycle and obstructing a public bus while intoxicated. Two other youths were caught attempting to use a counterfeit €20 note and were detained.
In nearby Lido Adriano, Carabinieri stopped a vehicle speeding toward the sea and discovered a Kazakh national carrying a roughly 50‑centimetre machete hidden between the driver’s seat and the door. The weapon was seized and the driver was charged with illegal possession of an offensive object.
