Italian Carabinieri Ramp Up Nighttime Checks in Casalasco and Concordia After Crans-Montana Tragedy

On the night of 18 July, Carabinieri from the Casalmaggiore company carried out an extraordinary vigilance operation across the Casalasco area. Seven patrols and 21 officers, some in civilian clothes, inspected populated streets and venues frequented by young people, checking 170 people and 102 vehicles. The action led to one arrest—a 27‑year‑old repeat offender returned to prison—and a denunciation of another individual, while a 32‑year‑old man was reported to the Prefecture for drug use.

In a separate inter‑force operation in Concordia sulla Secchia, Carabinieri, the N.A.S. of Parma, and Modena fire services inspected a public commercial activity. The owners were cited for multiple workplace‑safety violations, including lack of mandatory employee training, an unauthorized video‑surveillance system, missing fire‑safety documentation, and incomplete risk assessments. Inspectors also seized 14 kg of expired food and imposed fines totaling €2,238.24, with additional penalties of about €3,000 for hygiene breaches. Both operations are part of a broader campaign launched after the Crans‑Montana accidents to strengthen safety in workplaces and public venues.
