Italian Carabinieri seize illegal construction in Sila Park and hazardous dump in Altavilla Silentina

Carabinieri from the Zagarise station and the forestal unit uncovered an illegal building site inside the protected Sila National Park in Calabria. A 35‑year‑old repeat offender was caught while pouring fresh reinforced concrete on a fenced slab of about 310 m², without any construction permits. The structure was built within an area already under criminal seizure for prior environmental offences, and the entire zone was placed under new seizure orders.

In a separate operation, forestal Carabinieri from the Sicignano degli Alburni unit discovered an unlawful waste dump in the municipality of Altavilla Silentina, Campania. The site contained hazardous and non‑hazardous materials, including ferrous scrap, discarded tires, gas cylinders and an asbestos‑containing tank. Authorities seized the area and filed a criminal complaint against those responsible.

Both actions illustrate intensified enforcement against environmental violations in Italy's protected and coastal zones.
