Italian Carabinieri uncover sophisticated underground bunker in Ardore, Calabria

Carabinieri from the Nucleo Operativo of the Compagnia di Locri, together with the local station, the Squadrone Eliportato Cacciatori “Calabria” and fire‑fighters from Bianco, discovered a hidden underground bunker during a weapons search in Ardore, a town in the Locride area of Calabria, Italy.

The structure comprises three separate subterranean rooms – a bedroom, a bathroom and an “escape room” – accessed through a concealed reinforced‑concrete hatch operated by a hidden electric mechanism. Beyond the hatch lies a narrow tunnel approximately 120 metres long, built to allow a rapid exit to a nearby rural area.

Investigators have described the bunker as one of the most sophisticated clandestine facilities ever found in the region, noting its intricate compartmentalisation and advanced concealment methods. Police are continuing investigations to determine who built and used the bunker and to identify its owner.
