Italian Catholic dioceses hold regional conferences on protecting minors
Religious authorities in Italy are conducting regional training sessions focused on the protection of minors and vulnerable adults. In Basilicata, the Episcopal Conference of Basilicata organized the II Regional Conference titled ‘Respect. Generating authentic relationships’ at the Centro per la Creatività di Tito.
The event, aimed at priests, educators, and Caritas workers, emphasized integrating protection protocols into daily educational relationships and fostering collaboration between the Church and civil institutions. Participants included representatives from the Potenza Juvenile Court and the regional guarantor for childhood and adolescence.
In Sicily, the Diocese of Caltanissetta held a formative meeting in San Cataldo for pastoral operators. This initiative follows the publication of ‘Rules of good practice for the Protection of minors and vulnerable persons’ by Bishop Mario Russotto. The program is coordinated by a specialized diocesan office involving psychologists, theologians, lawyers, and child neuropsychiatrists to ensure safe environments for activities such as catechesis and youth excursions.
