Italian ceramics industry warned of existential risk by Confindustria chief

Confindustria president Emanuele Orsini warned that the Italian ceramics sector faces a mortal risk, citing a surge in low‑cost Indian and Chinese tile imports, sharply higher energy prices and rising costs for emission permits.

Cisl Emilia Centrale leader Rosamaria Papaleo urged a general assembly for the Modena ceramic district, which includes 65 tile manufacturers, employs more than 14,000 workers and accounts for 88% of national tile production – roughly 40,000 jobs. She highlighted a 63% rise in Indian ceramic imports to Europe in 2025 and a 20% drop in European‑made product purchases, calling for coordinated national and EU action on energy policy and renewable deployment.
