Italian Chamber to schedule Nordio judicial reform bill before August recess

Mayors and court‑order presidents from the Abruzzo cities of Avezzano, Lanciano, Sulmona and Vasto have formed a coordination body urging the Chamber of Deputies to place the Nordio Draft Law on judicial geography on the parliamentary agenda by 10 August, before the summer break. The group seeks a meeting with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and asks that the bill be approved by 31 December 2026, the deadline of the current extension that keeps the four courts operating.

The request follows a confidence vote on Decree Law No 100/2026 on 12 June, which removed all amendments—including article 5‑bis that had protected the Abruzzo courts and those of the minor islands—prompting the coordinators to accelerate the legislative timetable.
