Italian cheese festivals in Sassano and Serino attract visitors in August

Sassano hosted the 22nd edition of its annual Caciocavallo cheese festival, featuring large crowds at the three roasted‑caciocavallo stalls, live concerts by organist Luigi Di Miele and flautist Bernardo Tramontano, and a performance by singer Totino Melillo. The event coincided with religious celebrations for San Gaetano and marked the first anniversary of the death of local resident Rachele Pizzi.

In nearby Serino, the fifth Sagra del Caciocavallo Impiccato e del Pittulone ran from 7 to 9 August. Organized by the ASD Ragazzi di Don Carlo APS, the three‑day fair offered the traditional “hanged” caciocavallo on a grill, the local pittulone, and grilled meat, with new gluten‑free and lactose‑free options. Live music, performances and a partnership with Radio Punto Nuovo provided entertainment for families and visitors.
