Italian cinema attendance reaches 29.6 million in 2026
Italian cinema attendance has surpassed 29.6 million entries in 2026, marking a return to pre-pandemic levels. This recovery suggests that the collective experience of the large screen remains a preferred alternative to streaming platforms, despite increased competition from digital services.
A significant driver of this growth is the under-35 demographic, which has shown a notable increase in theater attendance. This trend indicates that younger generations are increasingly choosing the cinematic experience over home viewing.
In Naples, the historic Supercinema in San Giovanni a Teduccio is preparing for a cultural revival. As part of the recovery efforts led by the Municipality of Naples, the “Prossima Fermata: SuperNEST” project will run from October 22 to December 13, 2026. This initiative, funded by the Campania Region, aims to transform the former cinema into a cultural hub for theater, music, and community activities.
