Italian cinema highlights Venice Film Festival and Capoliveri documentary

The 2026 Venice Film Festival is set to feature significant Italian cinematic contributions, highlighted by Nanni Moretti’s return to the Lido with ‘Succederà questa notte’. Directed by Moretti and based on the works of Eshkol Nevo, the film is described by artistic director Alberto Barbera as an authentic love story rather than a political or social commentary. Other notable Italian entries include works by Luca Guadagnino, Mario Martone, and the competition debut of Edoardo De Angelis with ‘Il fuoco che ti porti dentro’.

In local cultural news, the documentary ‘Capoliveri, un paese una storia’ will be presented at the Open Air Museum Italo Bolano on August 24. The project, part of the ‘CIAK, S’IMPARA’ initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education and Merit, involved primary school students from Capoliveri. The film captures the local identity of the town through interviews with an artist, a miner, and a viticulturist, exploring traditions such as the Festa dell’Uva and the history of local mining and viticulture.
