Italian cinema: New film premieres announced for Lucca and Rome

Several upcoming Italian cinematic projects are set for premiere at major festivals. On October 4, the film ‘Dio ride’, directed by Giovanni Veronesi and starring Pier Francesco Favino, will have a preview screening at the Moderno cinema in Lucca. The event serves as a transition between the Lucca Film Festival and the 26th edition of the Incontri del cinema d’essai. The screening will be broadcast live to over 100 theaters across Italy.

Set in the 17th century, ‘Dio ride’ follows Fra Leopoldo da Casamacchia, a man who shares the Gospel with joy and a message of a God close to humanity. The film is scheduled for a wide national release on October 29.

Additionally, the Rome Film Festival will host the debut of ‘Non oggi’, a short film directed by and starring Sergio Castellitto. Produced by Dude in collaboration with Philip Morris Italia, the narrative explores a future where cigarettes have become obsolete. The film follows a character named Carlo as he visits a museum of obsolete objects, reflecting on his past and the cultural shifts regarding tobacco use.
