Italian cinemas to host 4K film restorations and accessible screenings

Several film restorations and accessibility initiatives are arriving in Italian cinemas. John Carpenter’s 1988 cult classic ‘They Live’ (Essi vivono) is returning to Italian theaters for the first time in a new 4K restoration. Distributed by Filmclub Distribuzione, Minerva Pictures, and Rarovideo Channel, the film will be screened from October 12 to 14. The restoration aims to preserve the original cinematography by Gary B. Kibbe and the electronic soundtrack composed by Carpenter and Alan Howarth.

Additionally, Nanni Moretti’s film ‘Sogni d’oro’ will be screened in Venice and Mestre on September 22 and 23. As part of the ‘Tutti al cinema’ national campaign, these screenings will feature 4K restoration by the Cineteca Nazionale and will be made accessible to viewers with hearing and visual impairments through facilitated subtitles and audio descriptions via the EarCatch app.
