Italian cities adopt new waste tariff measures, cutting rates in Piacenza and expanding pilot in Pisa

The municipal government of Piacenza approved a reduction in the waste collection tariff, with an average cut of 1.6% for both domestic and non‑domestic users. Mayor Katia Tarasconi said the result reflects months of work and a political will to keep the cost burden low for families and businesses, even though the city handles a larger volume of waste than originally forecast.

In Pisa, the city council announced the extension of its non‑recyclable waste measurement pilot to the Cisanello and Pisanova districts. The programme, part of the forthcoming city‑wide Tariffazione Puntuale system, will use controlled‑access containers and smart‑card identification to charge households based on the amount of residual waste they produce, following the principle “pay less if you pollute less.” Full coverage is planned for the entire municipality by 2026.
