Italian cities advance green space and transport hub renovations

The municipality of Orbetello, Italy, has commissioned the redesign of the former Neghelli methane‑fuel station into a public green area. Using funds from an environmental‑damage pool, the project will begin with clearing invasive vegetation and waste, followed by demolition of dilapidated structures, site remediation, new paving, lighting and planting of trees and hedges. Work is scheduled to start by the end of July, pause in August and resume in September. As the local environment assessor Ivan Poccia noted, “Contiamo di restituire rapidamente quest’area ai cittadini.”

In Bologna, the historic Autostazione bus terminal is undergoing a €6.8 million, multi‑year refurbishment aimed at creating a modern, accessible transport hub linked to the future tram network. The redesign, planned for completion in July 2027, includes a new first‑floor layout, expansion of the underground garage, a monumental stairway from Piazza XX Settembre, upgraded accessibility features, and real‑time multilingual passenger information systems, while maintaining uninterrupted service throughout construction.
