Italian cities advance urban regeneration projects in Catanzaro and Chianciano Terme

In Catanzaro, Vice‑Mayor Giusy Iemma announced a plan to relocate the university’s humanities faculties to the historic centre. The proposal, supported by Rector Giovanni Cuda, aims to repurpose vacant public buildings for teaching, research and cultural services, aligning with the municipal structural plan that envisions a polycentric city where the historic centre becomes a hub for education and culture.

In Chianciano Terme, Mayor (Sindaca) Grazia Torelli reported that the city council unanimously approved a new regulation for the “Banca del Volume.” The instrument will manage credits from unused or demolished buildings, allowing owners to convert disused hotel volume rights into transferable building capacity or to exchange land for public amenities. The measure is part of the Integrated Urban Regeneration Project intended to revitalize the town’s thermal‑tourism district and the Rinascente neighbourhood, encouraging sustainable investment and green redevelopment.
