Italian cities Ancona and Messina adjust public transport services

The Ancona municipal administration met with ATMA S.c.p.A., Conerobus S.p.A. and the local public‑transport users committee on 31 July 2026 to review the reduced summer schedule planned for 10‑22 August. The discussion focused on maintaining essential links to the Torrette Regional Hospital and the INRCA health centre, preserving late‑night services on lines 1/3 and 1/4, and strengthening daytime frequencies on lines 30, 31, 41, 42 and 10 that serve hospitals and the Fincantieri industrial area.

In Messina, the single tram line has remained suspended since 17 March 2025 for a €28 million renovation by Ingegneria Costruzioni Colombrita srl. ATM’s sole administrator, Piero Cami, was questioned by the city council’s mobility commission and projected a possible service restart in spring 2027, though the timetable remains uncertain. Officials emphasized the need for clear completion dates, the possibility of repurposing the unused tram depot for bus routes, and the importance of restoring a service valued by residents.
