Italian cities ease summer traffic with roadwork updates
Rome reopened the main Via Salaria on 18 July after weeks of diversions caused by repair work on a traffic‑overpass damaged in 2021. The city announced that while the main lane is back in service, additional works on the overpass will continue.
In Bari, residents reported a growing shortage of parking spaces as several construction sites and new traffic‑management zones eliminated dozens of stalls across streets such as Via Crisanzio, Via Speranza and Via Tenente Casale.
Anas launched its "Piano Estate Sicura 2026" in Emilia‑Romagna, cutting the number of active road works from 123 to 20 between 14 August and 7 September, removing restrictions on about 133 km of highways.
Catania’s AMTS announced that, from 18 July, no fines will be issued for unpaid parking between 20:00 and 21:00, while technical updates to meters and payment apps will be completed by 1 September.
The municipal police in Sicily will operate speed‑monitoring (autovelox) and parking‑violation (Scout) checks at several sites from 20 July to 26 July.
Temporary traffic changes were also issued for Prato’s Piazza Mercatale (20‑25 July), Legnano’s Via Milano (closed to traffic until 7 August), Arezzo’s various streets (scooter‑lane and parking bans through August), Alessandria’s Piazza Divina Provvidenza (asphalt works 20‑25 July) and Ventimiglia’s suspension of the street‑washing parking ban from 20 July to 23 September.
These measures aim to improve mobility and safety during the summer travel peak across multiple Italian municipalities.
