Italian cities Gorizia and Avezzano report significant tourism growth
Tourism data from several Italian regions indicates a strong upward trend in visitor numbers. In Gorizia, following its tenure as a European Capital of Culture, tourism presence in the first seven months of 2026 has more than doubled compared to the same period in 2019, according to Friuli Venezia Giulia regional data.
Local authorities in Gorizia are now focusing on converting this exceptional growth into year-round services and expanding visitor stays beyond peak event periods. The goal is to integrate cultural tourism with local assets like the Collio and Isonzo regions.
Similarly, the city of Avezzano in Abruzzo has reported a 30% increase in tourism for 2025, marking its third consecutive year of growth. The city has become a hub for business, study, and work-related travel, alongside cultural and experiential tourism. Officials noted an increase in foreign arrivals and an average stay of at least two days.
