Italian cities launch Bus Rapid Transit pilots in Frosinone and Turin

In Frosinone, the municipality will start a free‑of‑charge BRT pilot on 3 August. The six‑kilometre corridor has 20 stops, two terminals, and will run 54 trips per day between 5:15 am and 9:30 pm. Nineteen electric buses and eight methane‑powered units make up the fleet, offering low‑floor access, real‑time information panels and climate control. Mayor Riccardo Mastrangeli and deputy mayor Antonio Scaccia highlighted the project as a “strategic infrastructure” intended to improve mobility, cut private‑car use and boost quality of life.

In Turin, GTT performed the first road test of its new BRT vehicles on 30 July. The 28‑bus fleet, 18 metres long and electrically powered, will eventually operate on line 2, connecting key points such as Giovanni Bosco hospital, the Ruffini parks and the Stellantis Mirafiori plant. Mobility assessor Chiara Foglietta said the system is designed to compete with private cars by using dedicated lanes and “bus‑friendly” traffic signals.
