Italian cities launch holiday programs to boost tourism and urban revitalization
Several Italian cities are launching major holiday initiatives to promote tourism and urban revitalization.
Montecatini Terme has announced ‘Destinazione Natale’, a program featuring over 100 events running from November 14, 2026, to January 6, 2027. The initiative aims to leverage the city’s Liberty architecture and its UNESCO World Heritage thermal sites. The program includes a Christmas market on viale Verdi with 18 wooden stalls, themed attractions such as a ‘Santa Claus Temple’ and an ‘Enchanted Forest’, and various immersive experiences.
In Cagliari, the ‘Grande Natale’ project is being used as a strategic tool to revitalize the historic center, specifically Piazza del Carmine. Following recent security concerns and the implementation of a ‘red zone’, the city will host an outdoor Christmas village from December 1 to January 6. The setup will include approximately 40 stalls, an ice skating rink, and a children’s play area. Local authorities intend to use the festivities to encourage the return of residents and visitors to the area, supported by increased security measures including night guardians and enhanced police presence.
