Italian cities mark International Dyslexia Day with light displays
Several Italian municipalities are participating in International Dyslexia Day on October 8 to raise awareness about dyslexia and specific learning disorders (SLD).
In Riccione, the Palazzo del Turismo will be illuminated in turquoise, the symbolic color of the ‘United for Dyslexia’ campaign. The initiative aims to highlight that dyslexia, a neurodevelopmental disorder affecting approximately 10 percent of the global population, often remains an ‘invisible condition’ due to a lack of timely diagnosis. Proponents emphasize that early diagnosis and inclusive teaching methods are essential to prevent school failure, anxiety, and low self-esteem.
In Lamezia Terme, the city will illuminate the Madonnina statue on the Piazza Ardito obelisk in turquoise. Local welfare officials stated the goal is to promote a culture of inclusion and ensure that different learning styles do not become obstacles to personal and professional opportunities.
