Italian cities Rome and Ancona unveil new urban safety initiatives

Rome’s municipal government announced the creation of a Special Commission on Urban Security, led by Council President Svetlana Celli. The commission will analyse local security needs and develop concrete responses, linked to the new "Piano Sicurezza" for the capital. Celli said the body will "allow us to deepen the needs of the territories and build concrete answers," and it will oversee the launch of the "Piano Roma Notte" night‑tutor programme aimed at improving safety after dark.

In Ancona, the Prefecture, the city council and the Marche regional authority signed a "Patto per la sicurezza urbana" on 9 July. The pact seeks to boost video surveillance, public lighting, urban regeneration of degraded zones and tighter coordination between police forces and local authorities, involving volunteers and community associations in a permanent participatory security model.
