Italian citizens abroad begin re-registration for COMITES elections

Italian citizens living abroad are beginning the process of re-registering for the upcoming elections of the Committees of Italians Abroad (COMITES). These elective bodies, established in 1985, represent Italian nationals in their host countries and facilitate communication with embassies and consulates.

In Brussels, the Consulate General of Italy has announced that the COMITES elections are scheduled for December 4, 2026. To participate via mail, eligible citizens registered in AIRE must submit an express request for inclusion in the electoral list by November 4, 2026. Applications can be submitted in person, by mail, or via email.

In Argentina, local organizations such as the Asociación Italiana de Socorros Mutuos, Amistad y Trabajo in 9 de Julio are assisting with the re-registration process. The association is collecting forms and ID copies to ensure citizens are prepared for upcoming local committee elections, noting that many expatriates fail to vote due to incomplete registration or missing ballots.
