Italian clam festivals boost coastal economies and traditions

On August 7, Tortoreto in the Abruzzo region hosted an evening dedicated to the Adriatic clam as part of the 48th edition of the Sagra della Vongola. The event highlighted the full clamming supply chain—from fishing and processing to local gastronomy—and aimed to raise public awareness of the sector’s role in the coastal economy and tourism.

In the Emilia‑Romagna town of Goro, the 26th Sagra della Vongola concluded with strong community participation. Under the leadership of new Pro Loco president Enrico Scarpa and praised by Mayor Maria "Marika" Bugnoli, the festival featured a popular food stand, live music, games and volunteer involvement, showcasing the revitalised local association and its contribution to regional identity.
