Italian clubs use football to integrate African youth

A summer football tournament in Vobarno, Italy, brought together eight teams of young players whose families come from Senegal, Burkina Faso, Gambia and Ivory Coast. Organized by the Associazione dei Senegalesi della Valle Sabbia, the event was opened by CISL provincial secretary Tiziana Fortunali, who said, "sport is more than a game: it teaches respect, teamwork and the value of differences". Mayor Paolo Pavoni presented the winning team with a trophy, highlighting the role of sport in social inclusion.

Separately, the Polisportiva Centese sports club delivered a new football kit and additional equipment to a school in the Ivorian village of Kongonou. The donation, funded by the local company Linea Import and coordinated by the village’s honorary president Gerard, aims to give the children proper gear and promote solidarity through sport. Both initiatives illustrate how Italian community organisations are supporting African youth with football as a tool for integration and opportunity.
