Avola invests €18 million in coastal defense and erosion control
The municipality of Avola is advancing a series of strategic interventions to combat coastal erosion and protect its shoreline. Mayor Rossana Cannata announced that an additional €8 million has been allocated to the project, bringing the total investment in the coastal area to €18 million.
The program includes the construction of breakwaters, the reinforcement of rocky walls, and beach nourishment (sand replenishment). These structural works aim to safeguard residential areas, local businesses, and environmental heritage from the advancing sea.
According to the municipal administration, the project follows a consistent programming strategy that began with an initial €10 million investment. The sequence of works prioritizes structural defenses first, followed by the replenishment of sand on the beaches to enhance both safety and tourism resources.
