Italian coastal towns and Ontario's Thousand Islands dubbed “Venice” attractions
Travel guides highlight several Italian coastal towns for their picturesque settings. Tellaro on the Ligurian coast offers pastel houses and quiet sea views, while Tropea in Calabria features golden beaches, a cliff‑side monastery and famous red onions. In the south, Chianalea is noted for houses built directly on the water, earning the nickname “Little Venice of the South,” and Amalfi remains a classic jewel of the Amalfi Coast with its historic cathedral and dramatic seafront.
Across the Atlantic, the Thousand Islands region of southeastern Ontario, spanning the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario, is praised for its winding waterways and over 1,900 islands. Towns such as Gananoque, Brockville and the former capital Kingston showcase historic streets, waterfront patios and European‑style architecture. Visitors can explore attractions like Boldt Castle and Singer Castle, adding a fairy‑tale feel that has earned the area the moniker “Venice of America.” Both destinations are presented as charming, waterfront getaways without the need for long‑distance travel.
