Italian coastal towns extend beach services into autumn
Several Italian coastal locations are extending their beach services beyond the official end of the summer season to capitalize on autumn tourism.
In Chiavari, the municipality has extended umbrella and sunbed rentals at the Marina Giulia free beach until November 1. Managed by the in-house company Marina Chiavari, the service will operate daily from 9:00 to 19:00 until October 1. From October 2 through early November, service will shift to a weekend-only model, operating Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 to 17:00. Rental prices are set at 5 euros per item per day. Mayor Federico Messuti stated that the extension aims to value the sea beyond summer months and make the coastline more accessible to residents and visitors.
Similarly, in Riccione, beach establishments are remaining open for at least another week despite the official end of the bathing season. Diego Casadei, president of the local cooperative, noted that many establishments cannot afford to close immediately and will continue to offer services such as umbrellas, sunbeds, and refreshments. While lifeguard towers may be vacated, businesses can remain operational provided they display appropriate signage in accordance with national ordinances.
