Italian coastal towns highlight historical heritage for tourism
Italian coastal destinations are highlighting their historical and architectural heritage to enhance summer tourism. In Finale Ligure, the municipality has launched the ‘Estate nei Castelli’ (Summer in the Castles) project for the 2026 season. This initiative aims to transform local medieval structures, such as Castel Gavone and Forte San Giovanni, into active cultural sites rather than mere landmarks. The program follows preliminary events held in May 2026 to promote the region's historical identity.
In Cesenatico, the town’s maritime identity is centered around its canal port, which follows a design studied by Leonardo da Vinci in 1502. The Porto Canale remains a significant cultural site, featuring traditional fishing vessels and the Museo della Marineria. The museum preserves the history of Adriatic seafaring through both land-based exhibits and floating displays of traditional boats.
