Italian Communist Delegation Visits Cuba for Fidel Castro Centennial

A delegation of the Italian Communist Party, headed by academic Luciano Vasapollo and officials Giacomo Marchetti and Rita Martufi, will travel to Havana in early August to take part in the first International Colloquium “Fidel: legacy and future,” scheduled for 10‑13 August at the Palace of Conventions. The event, organized by the Fidel Castro Ruz Center and Cuban institutions, commemorates the 100th anniversary of Fidel Castro’s birth and will host researchers, historians and social leaders from around the world to discuss his political legacy, anti‑imperialist stance and the broader role of socialism.

The visit comes as U.S. restrictions on Cuba intensify, prompting the Italian communists to stress the need for stronger ties among communist and anti‑imperialist movements worldwide and to promote debate on self‑determination and international solidarity.
