Italian communities commemorate victims of gender-based violence
Communities in Italy are holding commemorative events to honor victims of gender-based violence and promote awareness of support services.
In Battipaglia, the association ‘Non sei sola Battipaglia contro la violenza sulle donne APS’ organized a day of remembrance marking three years since the femicide of Maria Rosa Troisi. The event included institutional representatives, religious blessings, and cultural readings aimed at emphasizing the importance of gender equality and the availability of 24-hour listening services for victims.
In Palermo, the Associazione Millecolori APS ETS marked the 43rd anniversary of the death of Lia Pipitone, a victim of mafia and patriarchal violence. The event featured the inauguration of ‘Il Filo di Lia,’ a permanent art installation at the Lia Pipitone Anti-Violence Center. Located in a property confiscated from the mafia, the center serves as a resource for women seeking safety and autonomy, using the installation to symbolize the complex journey from violence to freedom.
