Italian communities commemorate WWII Nazifascist massacre victims

Communities in Italy are holding ceremonies to commemorate victims of Nazifascist massacres during World War II.

In Pietrasanta, local institutions and associations gathered at the Baccatoio stream in Valdicastello to honor 14 men killed and abandoned on August 12, 1944. The ceremony included the laying of a laurel wreath at commemorative plaques and the performance of ‘Silenzio fuori ordinanza’. Local official Ermanno Sorbo emphasized the importance of memory in defending democracy and peace.

In Castelleone di Suasa, the 82nd anniversary of the Liberation is being marked with a dedication to three partisans—Pietro Brutti, Amedeo Galassi, and Alessandro Maggini. The men were executed by German SS, Carabinieri, and fascist militia following a raid in Ostra on February 6, 1944. The commemoration, organized by ANPI and local combatant associations, highlights the historical significance of the Ostra massacre and the legacy of the resistance fighters.
