Italian communities host events for returning emigrants
Various Italian communities are hosting events dedicated to returning emigrants, focusing on the themes of mobility and regional identity. In Basilicata, the Centro Studi Internazionali Lucani nel Mondo (CIM) is organizing initiatives in Venosa, Tramutola, and Maratea to address the phenomena of 'ritornanza' (returning) and 'trasmondanza' (crossing borders).
Luigi Scaglione, President of CIM, highlighted the need to analyze migration patterns to combat regional depopulation. The organization is also proposing a new forum for young emigrants and seeking to modify laws regarding 'Lucani nel Mondo' to better include third and fourth-generation descendants who may face challenges with Italian citizenship recognition.
In Sardinia, the town of San Gavino is celebrating its emigrants through an event organized by the local Pro Loco and the '76 conscription committee'. The festivities include religious services, traditional Sardinian music, and a community dinner intended to honor those who left the island for work or opportunity and return during the summer months.
