Italian communities launch initiatives to support elderly residents
Local initiatives in Italy are focusing on the social integration and well-being of the elderly population. In Quiliano, the “Terzo Tempo” project has been launched to combat loneliness and isolation among residents over 65. With seniors making up approximately 25% of the local population, the initiative provides an aggregation center for socialization, recreation, and support for caregivers. Managed by Cooperativa Anteo, the service includes daily professional staff and activities designed for both fragile seniors and those seeking active community participation.
Similarly, in San Giorgio Monferrato, the local administration and Pro Loco organized a traditional “Festa degli Anziani” (Elderly Festival). The event brought together approximately eighty residents, including guests from local nursing homes, for a communal lunch featuring traditional regional cuisine. The celebration serves as a formal recognition of the elderly generation's contribution to the community and aims to strengthen social bonds through shared traditions.
