Italian communities protest proposed data center developments
Citizens in the Italian regions of Cesate and Magenta are mobilizing against the construction of new data centers. In Cesate, the Comitato per la Tutela del Territorio has submitted a formal letter to Mayor Roberto Vumbaca regarding a project on via Ruggero Leoncavallo. The committee, backed by a petition of 1,018 citizens, is demanding a public assembly that focuses on a direct dialogue between the administration and the community, rather than a debate between political majority and opposition. The group argues that the evaluation must cover the entire project, including infrastructure and territorial effects, rather than just the building's exterior.
In Magenta, the #NODATACENTER campaign continues its information and awareness efforts. Activists have noted a significant information gap among residents regarding the environmental, energetic, and urbanistic impacts of such facilities. A new signature collection and information drive is scheduled for September 28 at Piazza Mercato to encourage civic participation and demand clarity from political institutions.
