Italian communities reopen sports field and astronomical observatory

In Italy, two local communities are celebrating the reopening of significant public facilities.

In Bracigliano, the ‘Alfonso De Crescenzo’ municipal sports field is set to reopen on August 23 following an extensive renovation. Funded by a 700,000 euro grant from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers’ Office for Sport, the project included the construction of a new grandstand and the removal of architectural barriers to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities. Local officials stated the facility aims to serve as a modern hub for inclusion and athletic competition.

In San Lorenzo a Comitini, the municipal astronomical observatory has officially reopened after being previously vandalized and abandoned. During the reopening event, astrophysicist Carmelo Falco provided an educational session on constellations and celestial bodies for over 300 attendees. Mayor Luigi Nigrelli announced that unexpected regional funding will be used to rehabilitate the mountain area and construct a planetarium, which is intended to become the largest in the region and connect with international astronomical networks.
