Italian community events highlight historical ties and cultural memory

Various cultural and sporting events in Italy have recently highlighted historical ties and the importance of community memory. In Trieste, Mayor Roberto Dipiazza was presented with the FertiliArt 2026 award at the Regional Institute for Istrian-Fiuman-Dalmatian Culture. The award recognizes his commitment to preserving the memory of the Giuliano-Dalmatian exodus and strengthening relations between Trieste and Fertilia.

Additionally, the first edition of the Torneo della Restanza was held in Polistena, Calabria. The amateur over-50 football tournament served as a gathering point for emigrants, including a team from Mondovì composed of individuals with Polistena origins. The event aimed to use sport as a means of celebrating historical emigration and fostering connections between original communities and those who have moved away.
