Italian community projects launch to combat elderly loneliness

Various local initiatives in Italy are being launched to combat loneliness among the elderly and promote active aging.

In Taurianova, the municipality has organized a week of activities for fifteen self-sufficient residents over the age of 65. Running from August 31 to September 4, the program includes light gymnastics, group games, cultural excursions, and visits to the Galatro Terme. The municipality provides transportation, meals, and insurance for the participants.

In San Lucido, the project ‘Non più Soli e… Memorie in Cammino’ (No Longer Alone and... Memories on the Move) is being introduced by ATS 2 Cetraro-Paola and the social cooperative ‘Il Raggio Verde’. Following a previous meeting in Falconara Albanese, where seniors shared traditional crafts and personal histories, the initiative aims to foster social participation and recognize the elderly as keepers of community tradition and historical memory rather than just recipients of assistance.
