Italian construction leaders address housing crisis at Assimpredil-Ance assembly
Industry leaders and municipal officials gathered at the Assimpredil-Ance annual assembly in Milan to address the escalating housing crisis and the need for urban regeneration. The event highlighted a significant disconnect between housing demand and construction activity. In Milan, demand is estimated at approximately 35,000 units, yet building permits and notifications dropped from 4,000 in 2022 to 1,000 in 2024.
Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala called for reconciliation between the city and builders, emphasizing that public funds are insufficient to meet the demand for social housing. He stressed the importance of a solid relationship with the private sector to manage urban transformation.
Giovanni Deleo, president of Assimpredil-Ance, and Antonio Ciucci, president of Ance, advocated for more efficient authorization systems and clearer regulations. They warned that adding restrictive constraints to urban planning without creating new opportunities could hinder economic sustainability and the ability to respond to demographic shifts.
