Italian construction sector shifts toward sustainability and digitalization
The Italian real estate and construction sectors are undergoing significant transformations driven by technological innovation and environmental awareness. Key trends include the digitalization of property transactions and a growing focus on sustainable architecture. This shift involves using ecological materials such as cross-laminated timber, straw, and raw earth, alongside the adoption of renewable energy systems like solar panels and heat pumps.
Giacomo Calzoni, Managing Director of Calzoni Spa, noted during the Infrastructure Academy in Rome that future investments will prioritize the redevelopment of existing structures rather than new land consumption. He emphasized that while the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) provided substantial resources, there is a critical need for new funding to ensure continuity in planning and to support the enhanced capabilities of construction firms.
