Italian Council of Ministers rejects renewable energy projects in Viterbo
The Italian Council of Ministers has issued a negative opinion regarding six proposed wind and solar energy projects in the province of Viterbo. The rejected developments had a combined potential capacity of approximately 318 MW.
The projects were slated for several areas within the Tuscia region, including Tuscania, Proceno, Civita Castellana, Viterbo, Vitorchiano, Valentano, and Montalto di Castro. The decision, reached during a session on October 28, 2026, aims to protect the landscape, historical, and cultural heritage of the province.
Luigi M. Buzzi, coordinator for the Fratelli d’Italia party in Viterbo, welcomed the decision, thanking the national government led by Giorgia Meloni and the Lazio regional administration headed by Francesco Rocca. Buzzi emphasized that the ruling demonstrates a need to balance ecological transition goals with the preservation of local environmental, archaeological, and agricultural identities.
