Salerno Prosecutor appeals Romolo Ridosso acquittal in Vassallo murder case

The Salerno Prosecutor's Office has filed an appeal against the acquittal of Romolo Ridosso in the murder case of Angelo Vassallo, the former mayor of Pollica killed in 2010. The prosecution is seeking a full reversal of the first-degree decision, which had acquitted Ridosso of complicity in the murder on the grounds that he did not commit the act.

This legal move follows a previous appeal by the prosecution against the acquittal of Colonel Fabio Cagnazzo. The Salerno prosecutors maintain that the evidentiary framework supports the charges, specifically regarding Ridosso's alleged involvement in the preparatory stages of the crime, such as conducting reconnaissance of the area to check for surveillance cameras.

The Angelo Vassallo Foundation has expressed concern regarding the judicial process. Foundation members Dario and Massimo Vassallo have questioned why the prosecution continues to pursue an accusatory framework despite multiple judicial decisions resulting in acquittals. To shed light on the complex legal history of the case, the Foundation has launched a docufilm titled ‘PERCHÉ?’ to help citizens understand the sequence of judicial decisions and statements.
