Italian court places mafia extortionists under house arrest in Trentola Ducenta

The anti‑mafia prosecutor in Naples has asked for 15 years’ imprisonment for Giovanni Pirozzi, 50, and 12 years and six months for Nicola Catalano, both accused of running an extortion racket against agricultural entrepreneurs in the Trentola Ducenta area. The defendants were alleged to have demanded protection payments, destroying greenhouses and crops when payments were not made.

During the trial, a judge approved a substitution of prison sentences with restrictive house arrest, ordering each man to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet pending further proceedings.
